A sitemap is how you tell search engines exactly which pages on your site exist and when they last
changed — but a broken, missing, or malformed one quietly gets ignored, meaning whole sections
of your site may never get crawled. This tool first tries to find your sitemap the
same way a search engine would: checking robots.txt for a declared Sitemap: line, then
falling back to the conventional locations most CMSs and plugins use. Once found, it
validates the file against the official sitemaps.org protocol — well-formed
XML, the correct namespace, URL and file-size limits, valid <lastmod>,
<priority>, and <changefreq> values, duplicate entries, and
whether it's properly referenced in robots.txt. Sitemap index files are followed automatically, with
a sample of the child sitemaps inside validated too. Everything is scored into a single 0–100
grade with a full breakdown, so you know exactly what to fix and why it matters.
